Retaining soil walls reinforced with geogrids and gravity stones (mechanical stabilized earth walls - MSE walls)

Technical specification of the materials:

Geogrids:

They are materials made of high-density polyester fibers covered with a bituminous anti-degradation layer. When designed, the tensile strength is calculated after 120 years through tensile strength reducing agents.

Gravity stone:

The Blocks shall be manufactured using high strength, low-slump machine formed concrete. The size of the block shall be 450mm length x 190mm height x 300mm width. The weight of the block shall be 34 kg minimum and the compressive strength shall be min. 20.7 Mpa tested as per ASTM C1372. The joints shall be dry; the blocks in one row shall be connected to a shaped lock and individual rows shall be connected with plastic pins. The internal wall cavity shall be backfilled with a suitable material.

Reinforced Backfill:

Non-Plastic fill with Plasticity Index (PI) value ≤ 6. The pH shall be in the range of 4 to 9. The shear properties such as friction angle, cohesion, and the gradation of the reinforced backfill shall be in accordance with FHWA-NHI-10-024
